Bulukumba, 2nd November 2024 – The Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program (PSP) of Hasanuddin University held a community service activity located in Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency. This activity aims to improve the welfare of the local fishing community through the empowerment and utilization of FAD technology. The fishermen present were invited to understand the benefits of using FADs in increasing fish catches.
The event also included the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Bulukumba Regency Fisheries Service and the Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the synergy between the academic world and the community and create technology-based solutions that positively impact fishermen’s welfare. “Through this activity, we hope to provide new insights and facilitate the application of more efficient technology for fishermen, to increase their catch sustainably,” said the Head of the Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program, Dr. Ir. Alfa Nelwan, M.Si.
This activity received a positive response from local fishermen who felt helped by applying technology that could support their fishing activities. With this collaboration, it is hoped that more innovations can be developed to improve the welfare of fishing communities in Bulukumba Regency.
