Makassar, 8 June 2024 – Students of the Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program from the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University have visited the Untia Fishing Port, Makassar, to expand their knowledge and insight. The class of 2022 fisheries resource utilization students, accompanied by Mr. Dr. Simon Boyke Sinaga S.St.Pi., M.Si, as the staff of the directorate general of marine spatial management, ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries who is also a practitioner lecturer who teaches environmentally fishing courses, arrived at the Untia Archipelago Fishing Port, Makassar at 09.00 WITA.

This visitation is a part of an effort to provide practical experience to students in getting to know more closely the operations at the fishing port and environmentally fishing practices. During this visit, students were given materials related to the functions of Untia Fishing Port such as loading and unloading activities of fishing vessels, processing of fishery products, and anything related to the types of ship licences presented directly by Mr. Iswadi Rachman as the Head of Untia Archipelago Fishing Port.
Dr. Simon Boyke Sinaga S.St.Pi., M.Si, stated that this visitation provided a precious experience for students in understanding the challenges and opportunities in the fishing industry, especially related to sustainable and environmentally fishing practices. In addition, this field trip is expected to have a positive impact on the development of knowledge and character-building of students in responding to the challenges of sustainable development in the fisheries sector.
