The Capture Fisheries Study Program (PSP) conducted a community service activity entitled “Controlling the Exploitation Pressure on Blue Swimming Crab through the Implementation of the Blue Swimming Crab Conservation Area Technology Innovation (K3R) in the Coastal Waters of Pangkep Regency” on May 14, 2026. The activity was held at the Official Residence of the Regent of Pangkajene and Kepulauan, and was officially opened by the Regent of Pangkep Regency, Dr. H. Muhammad Yusran Lalogau, S.Pi., M.Si. During the opening ceremony, the Regent was accompanied by the Head of the Fisheries Service of Pangkep Regency, Muhammad Arsyad Djamal, S.Kel., M.Si., and the Head of the Capture Fisheries Study Program, Muhammad Kurnia, S.Pi., M.Sc., Ph.D. The activity was attended by blue swimming crab fishers, crab entrepreneurs, fisheries extension officers, representatives of the Marine and Fisheries Service of Pangkep Regency, and lecturers from the PSP Study Program, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University.

The community service presentation was delivered by Ir. M. Abduh Ibnu Hajar, S.Pi., MP., Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of controlling exploitation pressure on blue swimming crab resources through the implementation of the Blue Swimming Crab Conservation Area Technology Innovation (K3R). The presentation highlighted the importance of maintaining the sustainability of blue swimming crab resources through conservation-based management and the active involvement of all stakeholders in coastal areas. This community service activity served as a collaborative platform among academics, local government, and coastal communities in efforts to preserve the sustainability of blue swimming crab resources in the coastal waters of Pangkep Regency. The community service team introduced the K3R innovation as one of the strategic solutions to address the increasing exploitation pressure on blue swimming crab resources. The implementation of this conservation concept is expected to support the natural regeneration process of blue swimming crab populations while also sustaining the coastal economy that depends heavily on this commodity.

In his remarks, the Regent of Pangkep Regency expressed his appreciation and full support for the implementation of the activity. “The Government of Pangkep Regency warmly welcomes this activity so that we can work together to protect blue swimming crab resources and ensure their sustainable regeneration. We hope that all stakeholders will remain committed to maintaining the sustainability of these valuable resources,” said Muhammad Yusran Lalogau. Through this community service activity, the Capture Fisheries Study Program of Hasanuddin University hopes to strengthen sustainable collaboration among government institutions, academics, business actors, and fishing communities in promoting sustainable and conservation-based fisheries resource management. This activity also reflects the contribution of higher education institutions in supporting the sustainable ecological, social, and economic management of coastal and marine resources in Pangkep Regency.
