Barru, 28th April 2025 – The Capture Fisheries (PSP) Study Program of Hasanuddin University conducted a community service activity on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Mate’ne Hamlet, Tanete Village, Tanete Rilau District, Barru Regency. The activity carried the theme Environmentally Friendly Fishing Technology. A total of 14 lecturers from the PSP Study Program attended the event, including the Head of the Capture Fisheries Study Program, Dr. Ir. Alfa Nelwan, M.Si., and the Dean of the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences of Unhas, Prof. Safruddin, S.Pi., MP., Ph.D., demonstrating their full commitment to empowering coastal communities.

Two main speakers were featured during the activity. Dr. Ir. Andi Assir, S.Pi., M.Sc., delivered a presentation on the construction of traps (bubu) using recycled bottles, offering an innovative solution to support sustainable fishing practices. Meanwhile, Dr. Ir. Alfa Nelwan, S.Pi., M.Si., presented material on aquatic ecosystems and their relationship to the use of environmentally friendly fishing gear, providing crucial insights into the importance of maintaining ecosystem balance in fishing activities.

The event received an enthusiastic response from local fishermen who were eager to deepen their knowledge of more environmentally conscious fishing technologies. In addition, the fisheries extension officer also attended, Kamaruddin, S.Pi and Fajar, S.Pi. from Balai Riset Perikanan Budidaya Air Payau dan Penyuluhan Perikanan (BRPBAPPP) Maros, supporting the continued dissemination of information within the fishing community. Through this activity, it is hoped that the fishermen in Mate’ne Hamlet will be able to apply environmentally friendly fishing technologies, thereby ensuring the sustainability of fishery resources for future generations.
